BRUXISM AND TMJ

Functional disorders of the masticatory system affect more than 50% of the population and are characterized among others by the following symptoms and signs:

  • Clenching your teeth (bruxism) or grinding them while you sleep.
  • Noises or clicks when opening your mouth.
  • Discomfort when opening the mouth and overload when chewing.
  • Head, ears or neck pain.

The goal is to achieve the balance of the masticatory system by creating an adequate relationship between dental occlusion, muscles, TMJ (temporomandibular joint) and central nervous system, avoiding in many cases the incidence of headaches and muscle contractures.

We use combined treatments, mainly, splints, joint physiotherapy and medication.
